What is somatic/body oriented psychotherapy?
It is a term for body techniques that develop and strengthen the ability to communicate with, explore, understand and potentially release experiences and emotions held in the body. Which then consequentially releases it from the nervous system, mind and belief system.
Body oriented psychological therapies build a connection between our mind and body. Deepening our connection to ourselves, others and the world.
Why choose somatic/body oriented psychotherapy?
Traumatic events, whether a one off experience or ongoing chronic trauma, are almost impossible to put into words. This is because during moments of trauma recall, Broca’s area of the brain – the part responsible for speech production – shuts down, compromising our ability to describe how we are feeling.
By working with the body and nervous system through somatic therapies, we learn to slowly release trauma from the body, creating a space inside ourselves where healing can begin.

Somatic EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach that combines traditional EMDR techniques with a focus on the body. It helps people process and heal emotional trauma by connecting the physical sensations stored in the body with the mind’s memories and emotions. This trauma informed method works to release anxiety, stress, and past wounds, allowing you to feel more balanced, grounded, and empowered. It’s especially helpful for those going through significant life changes or healing from past trauma, bringing lasting emotional peace and clarity.

Rooted in Jungian psychology, quantum physics, and systems theory, Processwork acknowledges that symptoms, conflicts, and dreams are meaningful expressions of the unconscious. Whether working with emotional difficulties, relationship challenges, or life direction, Processwork empowers individuals to discover new perspectives and bring greater awareness to all aspects of life.

Somatic Experiencing/Trauma Resiliency (SE) SE is an integrative (mind-body) approach developed by Peter A. Levine (1997, 2005) that focuses on identifying the psychophysiological patterns that underlie the traumatic responses (Leitch et al., 2009). SE develops sensory resources (e.g., places in the body that do not feel pain but feel strong) that help the client feel safe in developing sensory awareness and the corresponding self-regulation (Leitch et al., 2009, p. 11).

MBT represents a clinical integration of mindfulness and western psychotherapies. Based on ancient eastern meditation and yoga traditions, MBT programs involve the key element of non-judgemental observation of feelings, thoughts, external stimuli from the environment, physical pain or psychological distress (Kabat-Zinn, 1990). Participants are gradually taught to become more aware of their own body, and to use this awareness to process and regulate emotions and intense bodily sensations.
